The Ivy.

The name is synonymous with all things glamour, and with that also comes a reputation as one of the hardest restaurants to get a table at in London. It's understandable, everyone wants to experience the fabulous atmosphere and wonderful food, but unless you book far in advance it's unlikely you'll ever get that chance. At least this was the case 12 months ago before the Caprice Holdings restaurant group and it's owner Richard Caring decided it was time to spread The Ivy name across London and open new restaurants which claim to keep 40% of their tables free for walk-ins. Sounds brilliant right? So I thought it was about time that I tested out these restaurants for myself and see if they lived up to The Ivy name.

The Ivy Market Grill - Covent Garden

The Ivy Market Grill was the first leap into new restaurant offerings, taking prime place in the always vibrant, Covent Garden. The restaurant opened in November of last year and has been a hit ever since. Although it is apparently easier to get a walk-in table, I chickened out and pre-booked couple of days in advance as I wanted to visit during the busy Sunday lunch time. This was simple enough however as it can all be completed online. All booked up, myself, my sister and family friend arrived slightly before our allotted time. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and opted for inside this time as the interior was so intriguing and welcoming. We were seated in a wooden booth, surrounded by art-deco inspired wallpaper and artwork. Drinks to start, we opted for non-alcoholic following our cocktail fueled night before, but there was a great selection of wines of offer. The menu was full and varied, from light bites to larger meals with everything on the side. There are different menus dependent on the time of your visit; brunch, cafe, all day, afternoon tea, and dessert. Our time slot fell in 'brunch' option, which as one would imagine, offered selections suited to both breakfast and lunch. As we had already had breakfast at our hotel hours before, we all opted for more 'lunch' inspired meals, Shepherds pie for my sister and friend, and Chargrilled Banham for myself. Both meals were beautifully presented and most importantly they tasted fantastic. The portions were just right as they left you satisfied but with a little room left to sample the all important desserts! Now this is where the meal becomes magical. Being the foodie I am, I had admittedly 'food stalked' the desserts prior to booking and was instantly taken by the 'chocolate bombe'. A dreamy dessert where I think I'll let the description do the talking:

Melting chocolate bombe with milk foam, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre with hot salted caramel sauce

Sounds good right? Wrong. It was amazing. Hands down, the best dessert I have ever experienced. I don't want to spoil the dessert any further because the pure concept of it is a show in itself which everyone should get to experience in reality. Very full and very satisfied, we finished out drinks and payed the very reasonable bill. Everything about the Ivy Market Grill met my expectations, I could give it no less than 5/5 in all aspects.

The Ivy Chelsea Garden - Kings Road, Chelsea

Across the city, the next venture of the Ivy London take-over is The Ivy Chelsea Garden. Opened in April of this year, this restaurant is a little oasis in which you are taken away from the chaos of London and into tranquil surroundings dedicated to wining and dining. The restaurant has grown in popularity considering it's location and unique dining opportunities. As such, I'm not 100% sure on how easy it is to gain a walk-in table as even though I pre-booked (as advised by a friend), we still had to wait a little by the bar for our table to be freed up. This was probably due to requesting a garden table however. Still, I would advise you do pre-book and when you do, go for a garden table because my word is it worth it! We were seated next to a charming fountain on the sunniest of London days. It was pure bliss. Our drinks that we had ordered on arrival were brought outside to our table. We began with a refreshing Chelsea set cooler to quench our thirst after a walk in the beating sun up the Kings Road. It was just the ticket, and once re-hydrated we explored the menu. Like it's sister in theatreland, The Ivy Chelsea Garden offers a variety of menus dependent on the time of your visit: breakfast, brunch, all day, cafe, afternoon tea and the usual drinks/desserts. We chose from the 'all day' menu which offered a mix of light-bites, sandwiches and fuller meals. Following a busy morning exploring Buckingham Palace (a fabulous tour that I recommend to both tourists and home-birds of London alike), both myself and my mum decided we needed a quite hearty meal, and as such we selected the Chelsea Garden Burger and Chicken Milanese. As we awaited our food and bathed in the sun,  we were quite unable to believe we were still in the middle of London and not some secluded secret garden. The service was fantastic, as we were never left with empty glasses and our food arrived promptly, despite the evident popularity of the place. Our mains were plentiful in both taste and size, despite appearing 'simple' at first glance. Full, but with room for something sweet, we both ordered desserts. I could not pass up the opportunity to once again experience the chocolate bombe, and once again it did not disappoint. Washed down with a glass of champagne, we soaked in the last rays of sunshine before settling the rather reasonable bill considering the location, and left satisfied and already planning our next visit. The Ivy Chelsea Garden is truly a magical setting, that I can imagine offers a different dining experience every time you visit, therefore it is my intention to return over and over to experience all this place has to offer!

What's next?

With the success of the Icy Market Grill and Ivy Chelsea Garden, The Ivy is set to spread further with The Ivy Cafe set to open in Marylebone this November, and The Ivy Kensington Brasserie set to open in December. Both restaurants are set to keep 40% of tables walk-in to enable customers to just 'pop-in' and prices will be very similar to the two previous restaurants. Only popularity and time will tell if we really will be able to just 'pop-in' sans-booking, but either way I for one cannot wait to sample another taste of the Ivy magic!

It's Graze box time again! Now admittedly, I've skipped a box because I've been really busy! However, here is a quick review of my last box:

Omega Booster Seeds

I was a bit wary of these as I'm not a big 'seed' person, but these surprised me as they were quite moreish and nice to snack on. Also, because I only ate a few at a time they lasted ages!

Marvellous Macaroon

I really liked the cheeky bit of white chocolate in this punnet, and the Amaretti drops were yummy! This was a nice but naughty treat.

Apple and Blackcurrant Crumble with Blackberry Compote

Part of the new 'Little Puds' range, this was honestly so nice and the perfect pudding for after Sunday dinner which satisfied that 'dessert' craving you sometimes get, but was also packed with lots of good stuff!

Tomato Dipinetti

This was the only thing in this Graze Box that I really wasn't a fan of, which shocked me really because I thought I would love this! I don't know what it was, but I just didn't enjoy the taste.. maybe it was a bit too tomato-y for me?

So, overall I enjoyed this box, but it wasn't the best I've had and I'll be making some adjustments to my Graze preferences! Now, moving on because I got a....

New Box!

Yay! So what did I get this week? Well...

Florentine

Belgian dark chocolate, cranberries & pumpkin seeds... erm, yum! This sounds right up my street and I'm looking forward to this a lot! It is 200cals per punnet though so I will probably eat this in two halves!

Slightly Sweet Popping Corn

This is one of the first items I ever got from Graze when I ordered a free trial box, and I loved it! You get so much popcorn from this little packet and it is so yummy (especially when warm). So happy to have been sent this again.

Korai Chutney

Don't really know what to expect from this one..The Korai chutney and little curry bites (which look like little rice cakes to me) only amount to 70cals so I'll be happy if I end up liking this one. I like chutney and I like curry so I have high hopes!

Fruit & Seed Flapjack

Graze Flapjacks have to be one of my favourite things I receive from them. They are so yummy and moist, whilst being packed full of goodness! They are split into three pieces and I like to split eating one over three days when I'm feeling the hunger!

But that's not all...!

I have a bonus Graze Box to share with you all. A Graze Breakfast Box! Yes, that's right, you can now get your breakfast from Graze! Well, sort of... You have to join the waiting list and wait for a code, but for me this literally took a day! So, like all Graze boxes, you get your first one free! So I thought, free food? Yes please! Before I knew it I was rating porridge like nobodies business! A few days later my breakfast box popped through the letterbox full of porridgy-yumness! Now, I was a bit naughty and forgot to actually snap a photo of the box... so here's a description of what was inside!

Blueberry & Lingonberry Porridge

Now, I have no idea what a 'lingonberry' is, but I do know blueberries and I love them. This was so nice, full of berries and refreshing!

Coconut & Date Porridge

This is the only one I haven't tried yet, but it looks full to the brim with coconut! Should definitely make my porridge a bit more interesting!

Blackcurrant & Cranberry Porridge

Another berry-based breakfast so a winner with me!

Apple & Cinnamon Porridge

This was by far my favourite! The flavors worked so well together and felt so warm and 'comfy' to eat on these ridiculously cold-for-May mornings.

I loved my breakfast box, and although I'm not sure I will re-order because I have a ton of porridge in my cupboard, it really opened my eyes to the new flavors I could try and what I could add to my porridge to make it a little more interesting. Best of all, porridge is really good for you and really fills you up! I could instantly tell the days I hadn't had porridge because I got oddly hungry only hours later. If you like porridge and want to try something new, join the waiting list and get a free box and discover some new flavors!*

*At present the Breakfast club is only open to current Graze customers.

I hope that's filled up your Graze cravings!

Until next time..

So this weekend was a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend here in the UK. This means we get a whole extra day added to our weekend, how amazing is that? Yes, that means none of that dreaded Monday morning feeling... well not until Tuesday anyway, but that's practically half way through the week right?! So what did I do with my lovely long weekend? I went shopping of-course!

The weather has been lovely as of late, (and about time too), so I went to an outdoor shopping village where I live and indulged in all things naughty.. including bubblegum ice-cream:
Bubble-gum icecream...all sorts of *amazing*

At this shopping village, they have some of my favourite shops that you can't really find anywhere else around here, such as a yankee candle shop, a shop that sells amazing bath bombs, and the best sweet shop ever (more on that later), and it also has a huge garden centre.

So, what did I buy? Well...

Bank Holiday Haul

Ok, so I mainly bought food... but it's the best food! As I mentioned before, the shopping village has one of the best sweet shops ever because they do everything from old fashioned British classics to the candy-wonderland that is American sweets. Best of all, they sell Red Vines:

Now I know many people love Twizzlers, and granted I do like them.. but Red Vines are so much better in my opinion, and this is the only place I've found near to where I live that sells them. As well as Red Vines, they sell Laffy Taffy so I went crazy and got a banana flavored one:

Whilst I was in there, I also discovered a snack I had years ago and haven't seen since. Belgian Chocolate Thins! Now if you've never had these, you are really missing out, and if you have you know that I just had to buy them. I chose to get them in mint:

So yeah, I went a little wild on the candy... but I wasn't done. I'd recently bought a new Yankee Candle so didn't need a new one yet, and I still have a pretty bathbomb waiting to be used (definitely one of those 'Too nice to be used' situations), so I just browsed these stores before moving on to the best food store, 'Brown and Green'. Now I'm a lover of fresh, artisan food, so this place is right up my street. Honestly, if I wasn't afraid of making myself bank-rupt I would buy everything inside this store, no questions asked. Instead, I held some restraint and just bought two items:

Firstly, I got one of my favourite drinks: 'Fentimans Victorian Lemonade'. This stuff if just delicious. It's brewed with a hint of ginger that really gives it a *kick* and is so refreshing on those hot, summer days.

I also indulged in this Sweet Chilli Hummus from Allison's Kitchen. Now I've only recently found a love for Hummus, I've always been neither here or there with it. However, now I can't get enough of the stuff, so when I spotted a sweet chilli hummus, I couldn't leave it in the fridge. I *love* anything sweet chilli and I can't wait to try this with toasted pitta bread! Yum!

Lastly, I headed to the garden centre with one purchase in my mind... Bamboo. I've had a Bonsai Tree for a year now and really like how it looks in my room so I decided that I wanted a Bamboo plant to go along side it. I decided to get this one:

Isn't it cute? It's actually a Double Luck Bamboo plant, and I just love it! It cost £8.99 which isn't too bad for Bamboo. Hopefully it will bring me some luck! :)

I also bought some salt & vinegar Kettle Chips, my favourite! You don't often find them in the individual small packets, so usually I don't buy them because they are quite naughty, but I went all out this weekend!

So that's everything I bought on my Bank Holiday splurge... it's mostly food I know, but it's some of the best food! And if you can't indulge on a Bank Holiday, when can you?!

:)

Love,

*Someone*
As part of my health-kick to get summer and holiday ready, I jumped on the Graze band-wagon after seeing a voucher code in an issue of Cosmopolitan. The offer allowed you to try a box for free so who I am to give up free food? Well, I tried it and I loved it. The portions are perfect for snacking and if you tailor it right, it can be really healthy.

Many have argued that it is a gimmick and a waste of money; 'Why not just buy a pack of seeds?' I hear them say. Well, after trying to snack healthy since the start of this year, I know first hand how expensive it can get.  When you consider all the other healthy snacks you can get from Graze (over 100!), I personally see it as a bargain at £3.89 a box including delivery. Ofcourse, it's each to their own, but as I only have a box delivered fornightly it really doesn't put much of a dent in my spendings, and I get to try loads of foods I would never try normally because of their bulk price in the supermarket.

So, with that, I got my Graze box on Monday and I thought it would be a good idea to share what I got this week, and then I can review the snacks in a later blog post.

So here is this weeks Graze Box:

Looks yummy right?

So, what's in my box?

Top-left is Omega Booster Seeds which is a collection of Sunflower seeds, Pumpkin seeds and Golden Linseeds. I plan to snack on these solo, and also to put them on my breakfast for a tasty Omega boost.

Top-right is Marvellous Macaroon a really yummy sounding mix of Amaretti drops, Almond Slices, Coconut flakes and cheeky White Chocolate buttons. Really looking forward to this one!

Bottom-left is a new addition to Graze, Apple and Blackcurrant Crumble with Blackberry Compote. This is part of the new 'Little puds' on offer at Graze, and is a spin on our favourite puddings for under 140 calories! How great is that? I can't wait to try this one as a special treat!

Lastly, Bottom-right is Tomato Dipinetti, which is Tomato Chutney with Rosemary Grissinetti. Now I love chutney and rosemary so I was really excited to see this in my box! Best thing is, this snack is under 100 calories... it's only 97!

So that's my Graze Box for this week. I'll be sure to try out these tasty-looking snacks and report back! If you would like to try a Graze Box, you can try your first box for half price at www.graze.com/uk/. Alternatively, keep your eye out for first-box-free codes! If you do, let me know what's in your Graze box in the comments below!

Love,

*Someone* xx
